Cloisonn¨¦, also named enamel, is a special craftwork which is the combination of bronze and porcelain. Its making process consists of filigree around the bronze body, enameling (making the pottery blue in kiln), polishing and gilding the bronze body. Cloisonn¨¦ can be made into many kinds of products such as vessels, lamps and lanterns, smoking sets, some of which are small ones with the length of one Cun(Chinese length unit: about 3.33cm/Cun)decorating in bedroom, and others are quite big-sized exhibits used in halls and parlors. Cloisonne originated in 13 century, and became very popular in 15 century (Jingtai reign(1450-1457) of Ming Dynasty in China). It is Chinese traditional handicraft technique with a history of hundreds of years. The color of the ceramic glaze is mainly blue, so people called it Cloisonn¨¦. In its making process, it practices the combination of techniques of bronze and porcelain, and blends the styles of the traditional painting and carving skills. |
